My plan for summer sewing is to try and make things that are more intermixable and adaptable. The need for this has been highlighted by the Me made May challange as I find so few of my makes really go together! I have a habit of just making random items I like the look of.
I have a few shirt patterns in my collection so thought that would be a good start, plus if I made a little longer they could be worn as a dress or with leggings to give more looks. That’s where practical me moved over, with a visit to see Adam Ant in concert coming up i started to see long flowing cuffs & neck frills to wear under a military style jacket.
No I wouldn’t be wearing that on a normal working day….those cuffs would get soggy shampooing hair… so I managed to tame my thoughts!
I decided on Simplicity 2255 view A but then added the neck frill of view C too.
The fabric I used was a bargain that I picked up a couple years ago for Β£1 mtr. I’m not sure of its content but it has a nice drapy feel with soft gold finish.
The make came together easily and I used my overlocker to do a rolled hem on the curved bottom & sleeves.
The only change I made was to sew elastic to the inside a few inches up from the sleeve edge so it gripped the arm & gave a slight flouncy cuff.
I wore it to the concert with shiny trousers & over knee boots but can also imagine it tucked into a pencil skirt. I think maybe I should have added just a little more length to wear as a dress so will note that for next time.
Looks more like I’m in a performance of “singing in the rain” before we went inπ
Forget sewing. I didn’t know Adam Ant was touring! How was the gig? The shirt does look fab – although I did love the eighties and flouncy sleeves.

It was fantastic. Saw him at a festival a few years ago but he was much better this time. All the old favourites plus some new ones. Think he’s about half way through the tour.
Was really pleased how shirt worked out but glad I didn’t go too over the top!

Did have a look, but he’s off to the US at the end of the week and a bit late notice for this week now he’s headed away. Presume you saw him in Plymouth?

No funnily enough I didn’t! I’d always wanted to go to the Royal Albert Hall so Mr B bought me tickets to see him there as my Christmas pressie. It wasn’t until after that they released the Plymouth date.
