Sunday Sevens #5

Once again time has flown, I seem to have lost a week or has it been two?  

We have had some lovely sunny days and I’ve made the most of it and got out walking when I’ve had the chance. It’s surprising to see how many steps I actually do!  

 As an early birthday pressie I was treated to a night at the O2 to see Muse, they were fantastic & the evening ended perfectly with a journey back along the river watching a lit up London pass by.  

 Once again we have had the company of doggies in the salon, just hanging around waiting for their humans who are being groomed.    

 
It was a beautiful day for Plymouth Half Marathon & I was there supporting Mr B. He did really well & didn’t need the flapjacks I was eargerly offering at the sidelines. Here he is making his way though the Barbican with only the last mile to go.  

 It also gave me a chance to walk along the beautiful Plymouth Hoe. 

 My other day off was spent with my beautiful grandkiddies so it was a siting on the floor playing with cars & bricks sort of day  

 Apart from that we have had the workmen in plastering the ceilings. I had to pack so much away that it feels like we are planning to move & although they were very good covering things it’s been so dusty everywhere. It will be worth it but I suppose I better get the paintbrushes out next 😃

    
  
 

Vintage Pledge

Back in January I pledged that I would make at least one vintage make. A very small pledge I know but with everything else on my list this year I decided to be realistic, so I’m very chuffed with myself that I’ve actually got around to it already. Mind you with our weather it may be a while before I wear it!

The fabric was one of the remnants I picked up from Misan Fabrics last year. If you haven’t visited their store it’s well worth going & popping down into the remnant basement to rummage around. I’m not exactly sure of the fibre content of this piece but it’s so soft and cool to the touch, perfect for sipping cocktails by the pool!

The pattern dates to 1973 and shows the original cost as 50p. As with all vintage patterns it comes as a single size with nicely marked cutting & stitch lines. Having pinned the pattern pieces together to fit I was reasonably confident that no alterations were needed but added an inch to the side seams at the waistline edge just incase a little extra ease was needed.

As it was I didn’t need the extra as the skirt fitted fine. I also extended the bodice section at the side to match. In the end I kept the extra on the bodice pieces as the original line would have exposed a little to much bare flesh😕

The construction was straightforward. The bodice was sewn as two seperate  pieces then attatched to the skirt, which was made up of four panels with back darts & a zip closure, before adding the back facing.

With pouring rain outside &  me still suffering with the lurgy I thought it best that Dolly did the modelling for now.

I’ll wait for the sunshine to get pics of me in it. I like the details of the gathers & underbust shaping so think I may have to go in search of fabric to make the jumpsuit version now 😃

Can’t believe another week has been & gone. It’s been a quiet week for me as I’ve recovered from my Easter lurgy so a few of this weeks pics are from the same days outing. 

• Easter Monday started with a short walk along the Thames enjoying the sunshine before my drive home to Devon  
• Having been away it was great to catch up with my daughter & grandkiddies. Getting invited for tea meant cuddles &  yummie pudding while watching minions  
• A trip to the dentist was more of a low point in the week but at least it was a nice walk to get there.  
• Saturday & the end of my working week; time to put my feet up in the conservatory, listen to music & gaze at the blue sky.   
• Luckily this mornings pouring rain cleared up and we managed to get out for a visit to Plymouth Hoe   before being treated to refreshments with a view.
