Laminaria Swimsuit

A couple months ago I was excitedly given the chance to pattern test a swim suit for Seamstress Erin Designs

The new Laminaria is a fully lined one piece with various design options for the neckline, straps and inset panel.

I have never sewn anything in swimsuit fabric so decided to go for the plain option with a v neck and halter neck strap.

It’s a pdf pattern so you can get printing straight away! The instructions were very clear with plenty of pictures and a great description on selecting the correct size to get the perfect fit.

Normally I’m terrible for not taking much notice of the instructions so pattern testing really makes me slow down & remember how important it is; reading each stage to make sure it’s clear for others to follow too.

I found the make straightforward and everything was going wel until I turned the elastic & topstitched in place. I used my machine stretch stitch, as I had when attaching the elastic, but this time it wasn’t playing ball😡 I had back looping everywhere.

Not to be beaten I unpicked it all & repeated the step with a zigzag stitch instead.

I’m really happy with my finished suit and think this pattern is a great style. It’s lower leg provides great coverage and the variations give you the option for a whole suitcase full of different swimsuits for your next holiday😂 All the pattern testers came up with fantastic examples that can also be seen on Erin’s blog.

Having made this version it’s given me the confidence to do more. I’m no longer scared of this fabric and have 2 others planned.

Unfortunately haven’t made it to the beach yet so no scenic photoshoot!

    1. Thank you, wasn’t as daunting as I thought but glad I went for the plain one first as I know now how my machine copes with the techniques needed😃 I had already bought the fabric 18mnts before but it kept moving down the pile!!
